Tyrantosaurus Ex? Battle of Alternative Titans
Mar 25, 2010
There’s nothing like the rough tumble of a good journalistic war. This one — #1 alt-weekly chain Village Voice Media’s (nee New Times) legal battle with San Francisco Guardian, the granddaddy of the alternative press, is especially entertaining. It takes a new breed of newspaper to tell the story. Here, The Stranger, out of Seattle, offers up a longish, but winning “The Great West Coast Newspaper War,” in part describing the mano a mano battle of Guardian editor Bruce Brugmann, now 74, and VVM impresario Mike Lacey, now 61, quoting one source calling the opponents “last two tyrant-osaurs.”
